Best Placinte Ever! in Țînțăreni is a small institution on the Chișinău-Hâncești national road (R3), an obligatory stop for any Moldovan travelling south — traditional Moldovan pies baked in an earth oven over the hearth, following grandmother Mariana's recipes. The house specialty: 12 types of pies (with salty cheese, potatoes, cabbage, pumpkin, apples, sour cherries, plums, spring nettles, meat, spinach, walnut twist, poppy seed), all baked to order in 15 minutes, served hot with cold homemade sour cream. Beyond pies: vetrice (fried cheese and dill rolls), pelmeni, sarmale, zeamă in cold weather. Unfussy atmosphere (10 wood tables), very low prices, cooking in plain sight. Perfect stop between Chișinău and Cahul/Comrat.
