A dose of beauty — good coffee, flowers and places that soothe the soul
4 placesExecutive Director, Trimbos Moldova · mental-health advocate
Over a decade in public health — she leads Trimbos Moldova and the Moldovan-Swiss MENSANA project reforming the country's mental-health services. After beating cervical cancer she chose to speak publicly about it, so that at least one more woman would see a doctor in time. She knows, perhaps better than anyone, how much the small moments matter: good morning coffee, flowers, a place that does you good.

A dose of beauty — good coffee, flowers and places that soothe the soul
1Centru
So, I have a place I go to when I want truly good coffee, for the soul.
It's best around 7 in the morning, before it's invaded by all the city's coffee lovers 🙂 Here I get coffee just the way I like it, the smile of a sweet barista, and flowers. Lots of flowers. This is where I get my dose of beauty.
2Naslavcea
You can go to Naslavcea for the trout farm, for "Inima Moldovei" — a view over the Dniester with real emotional impact — or simply for a hike, or even a swim at Arghilit, as we call the lake with azure water.
Me, I'd go for the shade of the oaks on the ridges, and for the train that snakes through the fog at dawn. I'd take a thermos of coffee and a plăcintă (from the north! don't come at me with filo pastry and poale-n brâu!) and savour an early morning with that view. Though maybe... you don't even need coffee! Sour-cherry compot with a plăcintă... what more of a breakfast could you want?! 😊
3Slobozia Mare
When it feels like there's nothing left to see in Moldova, take a deep breath, get in the car and head south. To Slobozia-Mare.
There I found the most beautiful hospitality and Moldova's biggest surprise — Lake Beleu, with all its richness of water lilies, vegetation, birds, and what the English call tranquility. A stillness and inner peace you can find on the lakeshore, whether you're birdwatching or simply taking in a magical sunset. And if you're lucky (and the odds are good!) you'll come across someone to play the drum for you 🙂 The folks in Slobozia Mare are seriously good at drumming! They'll throw you a jam session to remember!
4Cojușna
In Moldova we're lucky to have many wineries (well, maybe not that many, but enough to choose from!). One of them is my favourite — a tiny family winery where hard work braids together with enthusiasm, like the strands of a plaited colac, until the magic formula of success comes out.
Because beyond enthusiasm and hard work, I honestly don't know what keeps these people going! I've never been crazy about white wines, but the Muscat Ottonel from Pomușoara Dulcișoară is absolutely conquering. And let me tell you something. Don't go to Pomușoara Dulcișoară on a full stomach. Honestly. Go there to eat in the cellar or on the new terrace, and take my word for it — you'll savour a true Moldovan feast, cooked traditionally and above all... with soul ❤️🔥 At Pomușoara Dulcișoară you're going home. Simply home, to hosts who make you feel at home in your own skin.
