Popasul Dacilor
Rustic fortress-style restaurant with traditional Moldovan platters and Dacian-inspired décor
Dacian platter with mămăligă, sarmale, smoked mititei, mashed beans and warm placinte — perfect for 4–6 people
You enter through a cobblestone courtyard beneath a fortified stone tower into a warm hall with massive wooden beams and exposed stone walls — Popasul Dacilor recreates the atmosphere of an authentic Dacian roadside inn. At the table, large platters arrive meant for sharing: mămăligă (polenta) with sour cream and cheese, sarmale (stuffed cabbage rolls) with a cauldron of mashed beans, smoked grilled mititei sausages, and plăcinte (savory pies) with cheese or cabbage baked on-site. House wine comes from regional wineries, and the smoked meat soup competes with the classic zeamă. It's the perfect spot for Sunday family lunches or meals with delegations who want to experience authentic Moldovan cuisine in an impressive setting. The fortress-inspired architecture — complete with tower, balconies, and rustic stonework — makes it one of Chișinău's most photogenic dining venues, particularly popular with tourists and locals celebrating special occasions.

“The platters were very good and traditional, and we really enjoyed the pies. I have to admit the solyanka wasn’t a highlight for me, but the bean soup with smoked meat was good. I’d happily come back for the atmosphere and the good food, especially the meat dishes”
