The Aleksei Mateevici Memorial House preserves the legacy of the author of Moldova's national anthem "Limba noastră," in Căinari, the village where the poet-priest was born in 1888. Tours are guided (free), and the director Mrs. Rotari is renowned for making children fall in love with poetry. You'll see personal items, manuscripts, photographs, and period furniture. The drive to Căinari (~60 km southeast of Chișinău) is itself an experience — a quiet village, rural landscapes, a perfect cultural-weekend stop.
