Moldova’s only state circus - a 1981 landmark with a 13 m arena and 1,900 seats, a symbol of Chișinău. After years of restoration it again hosts occasional shows; check the ticket schedule before visiting.
The Chișinău State Circus, built in 1981 by Ala Kirichenko and Simion Shoyhet, is one of Moldova's largest performance halls, with 1,900 seats and a ring over 12 metres in diameter. The facade is a masterpiece of Soviet brutalism, with sculpted juggling clowns above the main entrance. The building is currently under renovation after decades of intense activity, when performers from Belarus, China, Finland, Germany, Russia and Ukraine gave sold-out shows.
