The Chișinău State Circus, built in 1981 by architects Ala Kirichenko and Simion Shoyhet, is Moldova's largest auditorium, seating 1,900 and featuring a ring over 40 feet across. The facade is a striking example of Soviet brutalism, crowned by juggling clown sculptures above the main entrance. Currently undergoing renovation after decades of intense activity, the circus once hosted sold-out shows by artists from Belarus, China, Finland, Germany, Russia, and Ukraine—up to 57 performances a year at its peak.
