Pilgrimage to miraculous icon + Dormition feast (Aug 15) + Albaduiev colonel story tour.
Hârbovăț «Dormition of the Mother of God» Monastery (Călărași district) is one of Moldova's most important monasteries, founded in the 17th century by monks who fled Russia due to Uniate persecutions. The name comes from the first abbot — hieromonk Ioanichie, who was hunchbacked. Miraculous icon: in 1790 an icon of the Mother of God was donated by the wife (or mother) of Russian Colonel Nicolae Albaduiev. The icon survived three fires — on the left hand of the Christ Child, paper remains untouched by flames. From 1859 onward, the icon is brought to Chișinău for the Protection feast.
