Monument to the Deportees · Monumentul Deportaților
The column that never ends
A group of figures on a sloping plinth, with the railway station behind
It is right across from the station, visible from the street, with nothing to enter · five minutes on your way to the train. The placement is what makes it worth stopping for: the monument faces exactly the platform the trains left from, and the slope of the plinth makes the group look as though it is being drawn that way.
A sculptural group in dark bronze, raised in the square in front of Chișinău's railway station: dozens of figures pressed against one another, adults with bundles and children, set on a long white stone plinth that slopes down almost to the pavement. The plaque on the plinth carries a single line: "In memory of the victims of the deportations of the communist regime".
