Worth it for a dive into Chișinău's traditional market life - halls packed with stalls and local producers, ideal for tasting cheeses, honey and fruit straight from the source.
Chișinău's Central Market is the capital's oldest and most emblematic market, operating continuously since 1825 - established by the tsarist administration on the site of the old Moldovan bazaar of Chișinău village. Spread over 3.5 ha in the heart of the capital, it hosts 800+ stalls in 4 main halls: the Market Hall (vegetables and fruit - strawberries, sour cherries, cherries, melons, grapes from producers across all districts), the Meat Hall (fresh meat, homemade smoked cold cuts, cheeses from Glodeni-Soroca-Ungheni farms), the "Puiet Avicol" Hall (live poultry, eggs, honey, spices, pickled eggplants and pickled vegetables), the Flower Hall (cut flowers and garden plants). Plus street stalls with hot pies, doughnuts, sarmale, food to go. The best place to feel the pulse of traditional Moldovan commerce, talk directly with producers, and try local products. Open 6:00-19:00, peak bustle 8:00-12:00.
