1642 wooden church with a hand-carved iconostasis - the only medieval building preserved intact in Moldova
Yes, for an immersion in Bessarabian village life - an open-air ethnographic village with authentic buildings and workshops, near the airport (Botanica).
The Village Museum in Chișinău is Moldova's open-air ethnographic museum, located on Strada Aeroportului in the Botanica sector of Chișinău, opened in 1995. It recreates Bessarabian rural life of the 18th-20th centuries through 30+ authentic buildings relocated piece by piece from every region of the country: peasant houses (from Codru, the Bălți steppe, the southern Bugeac), complete homesteads with barns, sweep wells, windmills, watermills, the wooden church 'Adormirea Maicii Domnului' (1642, 17th c.) moved from the village of Hirișeni (Telenești), lime kilns, a working smithy with a craftsman (daily demonstrations), and a weaving workshop with a traditional loom. The guided visit (2-3 hours) includes entry into houses fully furnished with period objects, presentations of traditional crafts (weaving, blacksmithing, pies baked in an earthen oven) and a role-play workshop for children. Ethnography festivals with folk musicians and craftsmen take place 5-6 times a year.

“Wonderful and important cultural museum very near Chisnau airport. Easy to get to onbthe bus (if only they had luggage storage). I just brought my bags along. Or get a taxi. Peaceful encapsulation of what life was like before the Soviets came. Well preserved wooden medeival tower church, meticulously maintained gardens.”
“Very nice historical place....But it's NOT a MUSEUM. They baptise kids there and also do weddings that's why you can't go inside and have a look. People don't understand that it's a historical place. Not just a church. It's better to put the fee at the entrance and stop doing other business to keep the historical value.”
“Beautiful, but not a museum, not many houses. The church is actively used.”
- The church often closed - services, baptisms, weddings; check the schedule
- More heritage park than classic museum - few buildings accessible inside
- No luggage storage - not ideal with large suitcases
