The Cave of Deads
Natural cave beneath Rudi cemetery · low ceilings, constant humidity, and a crocodile-shaped rock
An undeveloped natural cave with a 1.5 m ceiling, a 50 cm tunnel and a crocodile-shaped rock · a steep descent below the cemetery at Rudi
A natural limestone cave located beneath the cemetery of Rudi village, reached via a steep descent with sharp stone edges. The first 50 meters require walking semi-crouched (ceiling height ~1.5m), and at the far end the tunnel narrows to 50cm diameter, requiring crawling. In the final chamber, a rock formation strikingly resembles a crocodile. The air is cold and very humid; in summer the contrast with the outside is intense. This is a raw, adventurous experience for those who want to explore without tourist infrastructure – but be warned: trash left by visitors and mandatory equipment needed: strong light, sturdy shoes, old clothes you don't mind getting dirty. Bats occasionally roost here. Not for claustrophobes or those unprepared for muddy, low-ceiling spelunking.

“Awesome!”
“Ok”
“The cave is easy to walk through, at least the first 50 meters or so. At the entrance there are some steps in the ground, they help quite a bit when going down to the wet ground. There are sharp corners on the edges, but they are not dangerous to hold on to. I would not recommend falling on them. You walk semi-sitting, the bridge is quite low, about 1.5m. I came across a singl…”
- Plastic litter inside the cave
- Steep descent with sharp edges · risk of slipping
- You need a strong torch, old clothes and stable shoes
