Trebujeni Reserve · Rezervația Trebujeni
The limestone landscape of Old Orhei, seen from above
Walks along the limestone ridges with the panorama of Orheiul Vechi
A must - the limestone ridges from which you look down on the Orheiul Vechi amphitheatre and the Răut bend. The best panorama of the site.
The Trebujeni landscape reserve is the natural setting of the Orheiul Vechi complex - meanders of the Răut river carved into limestone promontories, white cliffs, villages with stone houses, and a stillness that takes you out of time. From the high plateaus you get one of the most photographed views in Moldova. It's the place where you understand why people settled here a thousand years ago. Combine a walk along the ridges with a visit to the rock monastery in Butuceni and a meal at a village guesthouse. Most beautiful at sunrise and sunset, when the limestone takes on color.
An accessible ≈ 5.8 km loop (≈ 140 m gain, 1.5-2 h) along the ridge over Butuceni and Trebujeni, with views of the Răut meander and the cave complex. A longer ~22 km hard route also exists.
