Where to work from in Chișinău

We went through the whole city catalogue and kept only the places where you can actually sit with a laptop. Eighteen made it, and nearly all of them are in one sector.

5 min · Published 10 August 2026 · updated 12 August 2026

One of the most repeated searches on g0.md over the past 30 days was, literally, "a quiet place to work from". It came back 29 times. We took the question seriously and went through all 535 open places we hold in Chișinău, to see how many truly answer it.

A note on method: the list is curated by hand out of the g0.md catalogue, not an inventory of the city. A place made it only if its own catalogue entry carries first-hand evidence that you can work from there · power outlets, wifi, a quiet room, or a declared work format. Ratings, review counts and price ranges belong to the public Google listings, consulted on 10 August 2026. The search figure is an anonymous aggregate from our own statistics, with no text written by identifiable users.

ACT 01 · THE DEMAND 1 min

535 places in the city. Eighteen answer the question.

Chișinău holds 535 open places in our catalogue. Filter by the only criterion that matters to someone with a laptop in their bag · can I sit here for three hours without disturbing anyone and without being disturbed · and eighteen remain.

That is not a small number for a city this size. It is, however, a very concentrated one, and that is where the story is: of the eighteen, only four were built for work from the start. The other fourteen are cafés that ended up here because the city used them that way.

Insight · ACT 01

Chișinău did not solve remote work with offices. It solved it with cafés.

ACT 02 · WHAT YOU PAY FOR 1 min

Three models. Only one sells you quiet.

The eighteen split into three kinds of bargain, and what separates them is not the price but what you are actually buying.

café

The café · you pay for the order

Fourteen of the eighteen. You buy a coffee and get the table indefinitely, under an unwritten rule everybody feels. Google publishes a price range for eleven of them: at six, an order stays under 100 lei; at four, between 100 and 200; at one it climbs to 500.

by the hour

The anticafé · you pay for the hour

One single place in the whole city. At Patefon you pay roughly 25 lei an hour, and tea and coffee are included. It is the only model on the list where you need not order anything to earn the right to stay.

coworking

The coworking · you pay for the seat

Three spaces. Here you get what a café cannot give you: a room that closes, access outside business hours, an address for a meeting. Meeting rooms are booked separately everywhere.

The arithmetic is counterintuitive. A coffee under 100 lei stretched over three hours costs, per hour, about what an anticafé hour costs. The difference is not in the money, it is in what you bought: at a café you bought coffee and got the table on top, so the table can be taken back when the room fills. At the anticafé you bought the time itself.

At a café, quiet is a bonus that lasts until the room fills. In exactly one place in the city, quiet is the product.

ACT 03 · THE GEOGRAPHY 1 min

Twelve of the eighteen sit in Centru.

Here the numbers get uncomfortable. Of the eighteen places, twelve are in Centru. Botanica has three, Râșcani two, Telecentru one.

Chișinău sectors · places in the catalogue and places to work

Centru 281 in the catalogue12
Botanica 91 in the catalogue3
Râșcani 40 in the catalogue2
Buiucani 29 in the catalogue0
Ciocana 24 in the catalogue0
Telecentru 13 in the catalogue1

The bar shows how many places each sector holds in the g0.md catalogue, scaled to Centru. The figure on the right is how many of them make the work list.

Buiucani has 29 places in the catalogue and none on this list. Ciocana has 24 and, likewise, none. Those are two entire sectors where, if you work from home and want a day elsewhere, the choice is not between cafés · it is between staying home and crossing the city.

Insight · ACT 03

The gap is not that Buiucani and Ciocana lack venues. It is that none of them considered that someone might want to stay three hours.

ACT 04 · THE LIST 2 min

The eighteen, by sector.

Every row leads to the place's page, with opening hours, address and what the reviews say. Next to each we put the reason it is on the list, including when that reason comes with an asterisk.

ACT 05 · BEFORE YOU GO 1 min

Three questions that change the day.

The difference between a good working day and three lost hours almost always sits in three details you learn from a one-minute phone call.

01

Are there outlets at the tables?

Exactly one place on the list is explicitly described as having outlets at most tables. Everywhere else, ask · a laptop without a socket cuts your day to two hours.

02

When is the rush?

The pattern is consistent: mornings and lunch on weekdays, mornings at the weekend. If you have a day of writing ahead, the afternoon is almost always freer.

03

How long can I stay?

Nobody will give you a number. But if the place is small · and two on the list are described that way · a table held for four hours is a table the host feels.

Insight · ACT 05

A one-minute phone call before you leave does more than any list, including this one.

A city reveals its relationship with work through how long it lets you stay seated.

Update · 12 August 2026

Since publication the city catalogue has grown from 523 to 535 open places, and the growth landed exactly in the sectors this piece is about: Ciocana went from 19 to 24 places, Buiucani from 27 to 29. They are new specialty cafés, good ones, but none of them yet declares outlets, wifi or a room you can sit in for a few hours, so the work list stays at 18. The bars above show the new catalogue figures; the „for work" column is unchanged.
