"Back in the USSR" Restaurant
USSR-themed restaurant-museum in central Tiraspol — retro time-travel experience
USSR-themed museum-restaurant + authentic Soviet cuisine + KVINT cognac flight
Back in the USSR is the most well-known experience restaurant in Tiraspol (★4.5 from 1015 reviews) — retro time-travel concept with USSR theming developed on Sverdlov 54A. The interior rigorously reconstructs a 1970s-80s Soviet apartment: period furniture (carpets on walls, rotary phones, B&W television, floor lamps), propaganda posters, vinyl player with collection of Soviet anthems and hits, original photographs (Brezhnev, Chernenko, cosmonauts), badges and uniforms displayed. Authentic Soviet cuisine: solyanka, Ukrainian borsch with pampushki, pelmeni, pirozhki with potato-egg-mushroom, eggplant ikra, classic Soviet salads (Olivier, herring «under a fur coat», vinaigrette), Pozharsky cutlets, mors with apples. Plus extensive vodka selection (Stolichnaya, Russian Standard, KVINT vodka) and KVINT cognacs (all categories). Visit requires passport for Transnistria entry. For travellers interested in Soviet history, a mandatory experience.

“Amazing food, amazing hosts and super atmosphere! Food was delicious, I got the vareniki and my friend the cotlete. They give you for free vodka shot for aperitif and a candy in the end, both homemade. Value for money, do not miss!!!”
“Did two dinners out of two nights in town. Service is great, the food could be a little improved. Great interior of restaurant, many interest items from Soviet era. Nikola the bartender was very nice and oriented me to try “цуйка” which is equivalent of our tradition drink rakiya. Big plus is that accept moldovian lei as well. No option to pay by card”
“We went here for lunch and we were very positively surprised. The waitress was very efficient and polite. When we ate the food, we recognised, that everything was home-made and delicious. It felt like, we were invited for lunch by a local family and the babushka cooked the meal. We can really recommend it.”
