Museum at Giurgiulești river port — Moldova's only access to the sea
Ethnographic river exhibition + tour of the Danube port
"La Gura Prutului" Museum stands in Giurgiulești, the village at the confluence of the Prut and Danube and Moldova's only direct access point to the Danube (480 m of river bank obtained by territorial swap with Romania in 1999, enabling the construction of the international port). The museum presents Bessarabia's fluvio-maritime history — traditional Danube fishing, 17th-19th c trade with the Ottoman Empire and Levant, deltaic fauna (migratory birds, giant catfish, sturgeon), ethnography of local Lipovan and Gagauz villages. Outdoor display of traditional lotci boats, nets and fishing tools. Visitors can continue with a port tour, walk along the Danube dyke and birdwatching in the Lower Prut wetlands.
