Lower Prut Nature Reserve protects over 70 km of floodplain wetlands along the Prut River, on the Romanian border. In spring and autumn, thousands of pelicans, herons, egrets, swans, wild geese, and over 200 migratory bird species make their stopover here. The reserve's trails wind through willow forests, wet meadows, and tranquil lakes where silence is broken only by the song of the skylark. Best viewing is at sunrise or sunset, when birds are most active. Bring binoculars, water, and a hat—the reserve is open all summer and early autumn, and guided tours can be arranged through the administration office. This is Moldova's premier birdwatching destination, a peaceful wetland sanctuary ideal for patient observers and nature photographers.
