Central Bus Station of Chișinău
Gateway to rural Moldova and regional destinations · chaotic but surprisingly functional
Trip to Tiraspol (57 MDL, 1.5h) or Old Orhei · gateway for exploring rural Moldova and Transnistria
Chișinău's central bus station is the departure point for intercity routes to every corner of Moldova and beyond—Tiraspol, Soroca, Cahul, Odesa, Bucharest. Modern interior with ticket counters and waiting hall, but the atmosphere remains authentically local: minibuses that leave when full, street vendors, Soviet-era mosaic on the walls. Toilets are rough, but the system works: tell them where you're going, pay cash or card (40-150 MDL for most destinations), board and wait 10-20 minutes. Staff at ticket counters speak basic English. If you want to experience real Moldovan life—villagers bringing vegetables, students heading home, grandmothers with heavy bags—this is the place. It's not polished, but it's the most direct window into how locals travel across the country.
- Affordable tickets and staff who speak basic English
- Surprisingly functional system — marshrutkas leave often
- Authentic Soviet mosaic on the walls, worth a photo
- A direct window into real Moldovan life — farmers, students, grandmothers
- Soviet mosaic on the interior wall — colorful '70s relic
- White marshrutkas lined up at the departure platform
- Departure boards with Cyrillic and Latin destinations

“We went to Tiraspol from Chisinau bus station. Our experience was quite smooth. Ticket office spoke English. But if not, just tell where you want to go and you can pay with card. To Tiraspol it was 57 Lei per person. Quite cheap for a 1.5 hour commute. We waited round 20 minutes and the minibus took off. The minibus we went to Tiraspol was real old but i have no complains, tha…”
“Chaotic station however miraculously functional. You buy your ticket, get on the converted people carrier, wait until it gets full (10-20min) then off you are. There is a nice mosaic wall inside the station worth a picture.”
“A bit chaotic but everything seems to work out. Definitely takes some time to find the correct bus. Depending on the bus you pay at the station or directly at the driver. The toilets are very dirty, but i guess that's cause the place is very crowded.”
- Toilets are very dirty and poorly maintained
- Big crowds in the morning and Friday evening
- Some trips paid directly to the driver, others at the ticket office — can be confusing
