Eternity Memorial Complex is the main military monument of Chișinău, inaugurated on 9 May 1975 (the 30th anniversary of Soviet Victory) to a design by architects Naum Epelbaum and V. Iavorski. Built on the city southern hill (Centru district, Pantelimon Halippa 5), it includes: 25 marble stelae in a semicircle, each 12 m tall, symbolising the 25 years since the end of WWII; the eternal flame in the centre (gas-fed since 1975, never extinguished); crypt with the remains of 14 Soviet soldiers fallen liberating Chișinău (24 August 1944); paved alley with the busts of 16 hero-citizens of Chișinău; underground museum (opened 1985) with photographs and documents from the Iași-Chișinău operation.
