Saharna Waterfall
Waterfall framed by ice in winter and cliff-carved monasteries along the Răut River
Natural waterfall with a cave monastery on a 15–20 minute forest trail · spectacular in winter when partly frozen
A 15–20 minute forest trail through pine trees leads to Saharna Waterfall, Moldova's most visited natural cascade. Along the route you'll discover a cave monastery carved into the cliff face and two other Orthodox churches perched on the slopes. The waterfall is at its most dramatic in winter, when it freezes into a towering sculpture of ice and mist. Afternoons and weekends draw crowds—visit early morning or off-season for solitude. The paths remain walkable even in snow, and the forest atmosphere is peaceful year-round. For taller cascades, locals suggest Țipova further north.
