Tipova Waterfall
Canyon waterfall with moss-covered limestone cliffs, spectacular when frozen in winter
Series of 4 waterfalls in the Dniester gorge with limestone cliffs and moss, accessible on narrow paths — frozen solid in winter, you can walk straight on the frozen river
A series of cascades threading through the forested gorge near the Nistru River, accessible via narrow trails between limestone cliffs draped in moss and wild vegetation. Winter transforms the falls into ice sculptures—the best time to explore all four waterfalls by walking directly over the frozen stream. In spring and after rains the water flows abundantly, but access is more limited. The trail offers a mountain microclimate, cool shade even in July, and feels like a genuine mountain hike just 100 km from Chișinău. Wear sturdy boots and bring water; the descent into the gorge is steep.

“A marvelous serie of cascades spread across the gorges nearby Nistru river. It is best to visit them in winter when small rivers are covered with ice. This enables walking over to the most distant places and visit all 4 waterfalls. Travellers should strongly consider carrying sticks which greatly facilities walking on rugged rocky paths of Țipova Valleys.”
