Worth it if you are making a day of Gagauzia and want one place for the tour, the meal and possibly a night. It sits about 80 km south of Chisinau in a straight line, so it is not an evening outing, and the doors open at 12:00. Call ahead and ask about language and group size: the site says tours run in Romanian, Russian, English and Turkish, but one 4 star review found nobody who spoke English and got no tasting, and the posted tour prices apply to groups of at least 5.
Wine complex in Comrat, the capital of Gagauzia, about 80 km south of Chisinau in a straight line. Per the site, the plant grew out of an 1895 decree by S.I. Witte, finance minister of the Russian Empire, ordering 14 state wine depots in the Bessarabian Province; also per the site, production of 40 degree table wine started here in 1897, and wine from grapes has only been made since after the Second World War. And of those 14, the Comrat depot is the only one left on the territory of today's Moldova, again per the site. The same grounds now hold the Bessarabian Province restaurant, a banquet hall and a three room hotel. Tour prices are posted on the site: 250 lei for the 1 hour 30 minute walk, 350 lei for the tour with a tasting of 4 wines, 550 lei for the 4 hour version with snacks and a photo session in folk costume · those prices apply to a group of at least 5 people. The tour goes into the 19th century cellars and the Forgotten Things museum of Soviet era objects and equipment. The site advertises tours in Romanian, Russian, English and Turkish, but one 4 star review says nobody on site spoke English, the tasting did not happen, and the menu had to be run through Google Translate. Reviews praise the food, the lamb and the zama soup in particular, the wine at the table and the friendly staff · one calls the prices affordable. The restaurant runs 12:00 to 23:00 per Google and the site, and the company's branded shops 9:00 to 19:00, also per the site, which gives no separate hours for the shop on the grounds.
