Bender 1992 Memorial is the monument erected in memory of victims and fighters of the Transnistria War (March-July 1992), the armed conflict that divided the region after declaration of independence from the Republic of Moldova. Located on Tcacenco 1 in Tighina (Bender), on the former front line, the monument includes: 12m central black-marble obelisk with the names of 320 fallen (mixed — Moldovans, Russians, Ukrainians, Gagauz), wall with bas-reliefs depicting key conflict scenes, eternal flame (gas-fed since 1995), memorial garden with red roses. Officially inaugurated in 2002 on the 10th anniversary of the conflict, the monument is the wreath-laying point on Memorial Day (28 July). Free visit, accessible to anyone (passport required for Transnistria entry). Important for understanding recent history and the complexity of contemporary Moldova.
