Soroca Fortress
Circular fortress with 5 defense towers and Dniester panoramas · a unique vestige of Moldova's medieval fortification chain
Unique 1499 circular fortress with 5 towers and the option to climb the crenellated terraces overlooking the Dniester
A medieval fortress with circular stone walls and five defensive towers, built in 1499 by Stephen the Great on the banks of the Dniester River. Its unique architecture – a perfect circular plan with massive bastions – invites you to climb multiple levels, from garrison halls to crenellated terraces where guards once watched over Moldova's eastern border. From the upper towers, the view sweeps across the Dniester Valley and the Transnistrian bank beyond. A small chapel with frescoes and icons stands in the courtyard. After recent renovation, the fortress is fully accessible with ramps and elevator for visitors with reduced mobility. Perfect for sunset photography and families eager to experience living history. This is one of the last medieval fortresses of its kind in Eastern Europe – part of a defensive chain that stretched along the Dniester. Allow 1.5–2 hours to explore all five towers, walk the ramparts, and soak in the river views.

Other than that the …”
