Moldova's most loved places
We aggregated every Google review in our catalog. Who earns the love, who just gets the traffic, and why ratings rise the further you get from Chișinău.
Every place in the g0.md catalog is tied to its public Google listing. We put all the ratings and reviews together · 833 places, 519,745 reviews · and looked for what Moldova says about its own places when nobody asks it officially.
Method note: ratings and review counts belong to the places' public Google listings, re-confirmed from each listing's identifier on 3 August 2026. We only aggregated them across the g0.md catalog · a curated selection, not all of Moldova. Figures in the article are frozen at that date; the place pages linked from every row always show the live value.
The average is 4.61. The story is in the deviations.
The first number that jumps out is how high the average sits: 4.61 out of 5, across half a million voices. Google is famously generous with stars everywhere in the world, so the average alone says little.
It gets interesting at the margins: 311 places sit at 4.8 or above, and only 24 drop below 4.0. In an already curated catalog, a low rating is the exception that demands an explanation · and we find one immediately.
When almost everything is above 4, the gap between 4.4 and 4.8 is enormous. The rest of this article reads exactly those gaps.
Volume is not love.
Sort the catalog by review count and the top belongs almost entirely to public spaces: the parks, the Zoo, the Triumphal Arch. Places everyone passes through collect everyone's voices.
The volume top · review counts
- 124,749 3,7
- 219,244 4,6
- 316,436 4,8
- 414,660 4,6
- 512,868 4,6
- 611,525 4,6
- 77,795 4,7
- 87,201 4,5
The catalog's top 8 places by Google review count. Each one's rating sits on the right · a single place in the top drops below 4.
And here is the first story: the most talked-about place in all of Moldova is the Central Market, with nearly 25 thousand reviews · and it is also the only one in the top rated below 4. The market is traffic, ritual, necessity. Love, less so.
Volume measures how many people pass through. The rating measures the mood they leave with. The two tops barely touch.
111 perfect scores. Six survive.
In the catalog, 111 places hold a perfect 5.0 average. Nearly all of them hold it at a few dozen reviews, where one happy customer moves the needle. The real test is volume: only six places in all of Moldova keep a flat 5.0 above 600 reviews.
Club 5.0 · above 600 reviews, perfect average
All six places in the catalog holding a 5.0 average above the 600-review threshold.
One step down, at 4.9, come the heavyweights: two branches of the same trattoria with nearly ten thousand reviews between them, a monastery and a barbershop. And the absolute record stays with Mimino: 2,041 reviews, 5.0 average · to keep it there, you essentially are not allowed to ever have a bad day.
The heavyweight division · 4.9 at scale
A 4.9 held across thousands of reviews · statistically the hardest feat on this page.
At low volume, a 5.0 is luck. At 2,000 reviews, it is discipline · a perfect score defended year after year, customer after customer.
Quiet and wine lift the score. Hospitality loses it.
Aggregated by category, the ratings split cleanly. Above the mean sit the monasteries, the viewpoints, the wineries and the guesthouses with a traditional table · places you arrive at with time and leave with an experience.
Above the catalog mean · 4.61
Below the catalog mean
Category mean against the catalog mean (4.61), for categories with at least 10 places. The deviation is on the right.
Below the mean drop exactly the services with high expectations and direct international comparisons: Chișinău's hotels lose almost four tenths against the mean, and Italian and Moldovan restaurants sit, surprisingly, in the same low zone.
Moldovan cuisine at home scores lower than the winery and the monastery. The easier a service is to compare with abroad, the harsher the public becomes.
Ratings rise the further you get from Chișinău.
The most curious regularity shows up on the map: the capital, with 533 catalog places, averages 4.56. Nearly every district beats it · Călărași climbs to 4.87, Strășeni and Rezina to 4.79.
The mean by region
Mean Google rating for the regions with the most catalog places. The bar is scaled between 4.4 and 4.9.
Part of it is natural selection: in the districts, only destinations worth the drive survive. But part of it is the visitor's own state · you arrive at a Rezina guesthouse in a different mood than at a rushed lunch between two meetings.
A place's rating doesn't just measure the place. It measures the mood you arrived with.
