Colinele de Aur · Văleni
Limestone hills with paleontological vestiges — rare landscape, steppe wind, Prut view.
1-2 hour ridge walk with sunset view over the Prut floodplain.
"The Golden Hills" is the name given to a string of limestone hills near Văleni, southwest of Cahul, where the sandy-yellow soil reveals marine fossils millions of years old (when the area was covered by the Sarmatian Sea). For geologists, a golden ticket; for everyone else — a 1-2 hour walk along the ridges with views over the Prut floodplain and Văleni village. In autumn, the yellow-orange color of the slopes earns the name. There are no tourist markings — orient yourself by the rural guest houses (Casa Bunica Clava, Eco-Village Văleni) as starting points.
