Ghidighici Lake (officially the «Ghidighici Hydrotechnical Reservoir») is the largest artificial lake near Chișinău - about 800 ha of water created in 1962 by damming the Bîc river for flood protection and industrial water supply to the capital. Today it is the favourite weekend-escape destination 15 km from the centre: wild public beaches on the north shore (Ghidighici, Truşeni - free, no facilities), boutique beaches with pontoons and sauna (near Weekend Boutique Hotel), authorised fishing (carp, crucian, catfish, perch - permit from AAH required), water sports (windsurf, paddleboard, jet-ski rentals in summer). The water is clean, transparent, but relatively cool even in summer. Next to the lake - Ghidighici forest (300 ha of oak forest for hiking, MTB cycling, birdwatching - 80+ bird species, especially waterfowl). Excellent for a day trip or weekend with lodging at Weekend Boutique Hotel.
