A must - the Țipova canyon with waterfalls over 16 m and the largest cave monastery in Eastern Europe, carved into the cliff above the Dniester.
Țipova landscape reserve is one of Moldova's most spectacular natural corners - a deep canyon carved by a stream toward the Nistru, with cascading waterfalls, cliff faces, and oak forests. On the canyon wall stands the country's largest rock-hewn monastery, carved into limestone centuries ago. It's a half-day hike with marked trails that descend from the monastery toward the waterfalls and the river's edge. Come with sturdy footwear - the path is steep in places, but the views over the Nistru are worth every step. It pairs perfectly with a visit to Saharna, just a few kilometers away.
≈ 8 km round trip from the monastery to the big waterfall through the Răut gorge; waymarked from km 2, dirt paths and steps that get slippery when wet. Wear hiking shoes.
