We gathered most of the „Vin de Autor" members we could find on the map. Twenty-six of the forty have fewer than thirty Google reviews, and their average rating is 4.82.
The Moldovan wine the world knows is made in cellars tens of kilometres long. The wine drunk by Moldovans who know is increasingly made in yards with a single shed and the owner at the door. We put together the „Vin de Autor" members we could find on the map, and counted how few people have been to them.
A note on method: the forty are the „Vin de Autor" members we found on Google Maps and added to the catalogue, each verified one by one. We took the membership list from the association own site at import time · there may be more by now, and some of those listed then had no map presence at all, so we could not add them. This is not an exhaustive list and we do not claim it is. Ratings and review counts belong to the public Google listings, consulted on 12 August 2026; drive times are ours. The figures are frozen at that date; each winery’s page shows the live one. We do not say here which winery receives visitors and which does not · that is the thing that changes most often, each winery keeps it on its own page, and every row below leads there.
„Vin de Autor" is the association of Moldova’s small winemakers. The criterion is neither style nor region but scale: operations where the person deciding what happens to the grapes is also the one pouring your glass. Minis Terrios, on the edge of Chișinău, makes around ten thousand bottles a year. Pomușoară Dulcișoară releases runs of under a thousand.
Forty of them exist on Google Maps and are in our catalogue. Some of those on the association list have no pin at all · a few because they receive nobody, others because they simply never registered · and those we could not add. The forty span the country from Chișinău to Gagauzia and hold 254 catalogued wines between them.
This is not a niche. It is a quarter of everything wine tourism means in our catalogue.
The first surprise is the geography. An author winery is not an expedition: ten of the forty are within a half-hour drive of Chișinău, and three are inside the city. ATU is an urban winery on Dacia boulevard, in an ordinary neighbourhood. Vinum Estate sits twelve minutes from the centre.
At the other end the distances turn real: KaraGani and Domeniile Pană each ask three and a half hours, one towards Vulcănești, the other towards Cahul. Between them, twelve wineries fall in the one-hour to ninety-minute range · exactly a day trip, and no more.
The idea that good wine is far away belongs to the big cellars. The small ones settled where their vines are, and the vines are often near town.
Here is the article. Of the 34 makers with a Google rating, 26 sit at 4.8 or above, and the average across all of them is 4.82. Among restaurants, that is a mark only a few dozen places out of several hundred reach in our catalogue.
How many Google reviews each winery has
The 40 author wineries, grouped by the number of reviews on their public Google listing. The bar is scaled to the largest group.
And now the other half: 26 of the 40 have fewer than thirty reviews, and six have none whatsoever. Five wineries out of forty pass a hundred. In other words, the high scores do not come from broad consensus; they come from a small group of people who made it there · and who left impressed almost without exception.
A 5.0 on three reviews is not proof. It is an invitation. Nobody has been there often enough to contradict you yet.
Every row leads to the winery’s page, with the address, the contact, what the reviews say and how a tasting is arranged. Next to each we put the drive from Chișinău, the public rating, and how many of its wines we hold.

A good share of the forty communicate only through Facebook or Instagram, and several domains we checked are parked or abandoned. The absence of a website says nothing about the wine; it only says where to look for them.
At this scale the tasting is usually led by the producer themselves. It is the main reason people come back, and also the reason it cannot happen without an appointment.
